The Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) has fielded two Qatari GT3 teams, Thuraya and Suhail, for the 18th endurance race of the Dubai 24 Hours, which kicks off on Saturday at Dubai Autodrome.
The two teams are backed by the Ministry of Sports and Youth, QMMF, Porsche Center Doha, Al Buraq Automotive Company and Lusail International Circuit. Thuraya’s team includes Abdulla al-Khelaifi, Ghanim al-Ali and Ibrahim Abdulghani, while Suhail consists of Abdullah al-Abbasi, Ibrahim al-Mannai and AbdulAziz al-Jabri. Both teams will compete in Porsche 911 cars in the GT3 Cup (992) and will also have two semi-pro drivers, Julian Hanes from Germany and Daniel Ros from Sweden, in their lineup.
After two hours of official free practice today, the field of 53 cars from 42 teams will contest 70 minutes of qualifying for the 24H Dubai Endurance. After late-night practice, the green flag for the race will fly at 3:00 pm tomorrow. Twenty-four hours of non-stop racing will come to an end when the checkered flag flies at 3:00 pm on Sunday.
A total of 226 different riders, including retired seven-time MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi, who will make his series debut, will be in action over the weekend.
