Todd Boehly Chelsea takeover agreement gives Thomas Tuchel green light for La Liga transfer mission

Ousmane Dembele could be Todd Boehly’s first signing at Chelsea after the American billionaire’s consortium reached a definitive agreement to complete the £4.25billion takeover of Roman Abramovich. Because according to 90min, Thomas Tuchel’s team is “calmly confident” that they will reach an agreement with the 24-year-old’s commitment this summer.

The Barcelona winger will become a free agent at the Camp Nou next month after his contract expires and the west Londoners are among several sides ready to secure his services. Dembele was put up for sale in January over his wage demands; understand that Chelsea have been monitoring the France international’s situation – but also Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal.

Xavi then gave the Frenchman a second chance at the Catalan side and impressed when negotiations eventually resumed. Since the turn of the year, Dembele has made 16 La Liga appearances, directly contributing to 12 goals.

However, in recent weeks it has been claimed that Dembele will leave Barcelona this summer. And this month, Spain side president Joan Laporta confirmed the striker has been given a deadline to make a decision on his future.

“He has our proposal and a date by which he has to make up his mind because there is no more space [to improve the offer]”, he said. “We have been preparing for next season for some time and it is a problem that we are stuck because the agent does not respond to our offer. It looks like they’re going to make a counter-proposal.

“Right now our priority is to get our finances back on track. There are many players we are talking to and surgeries coming up but La Liga is not helping us. The criteria are very restrictive.”

Following the green light for Boehly’s Chelsea takeover, the consortium is expected to push for A-list signings to usher in a new era at Stamford Bridge, according to MailOnline. And with the new ownership group keen to bolster the Blues’ armoury, The Telegraph states that after factoring in player sales, Tuchel is expected to have £200m available to bolster his side.

As part of the Blues’ proposed rebuilding project, Dembele has become a target as several of the club’s forwards face what appears to be an uncertain future. But regardless of whether the LA Dodgers co-owner signs the Frenchman, Tuchel is keen to make a makeover at Chelsea this summer.

Speak with football.londonsaid the blues boss: “We are rebuilding, not improving the squad. We’re reconstructing. It’s always a challenge, but we rise to the challenge.

“I don’t know where we are from day one. What I can promise is that I will be here – if I can promise that – I will be here full of energy and positive energy no matter what. We always will still work for Chelsea and I refuse to think about negative scenarios. We will be competitive, at what level we will see.”
