Viewers have been stunned by a sex scene in The time traveler’s wife.
Audrey Niffenegger’s classic novel has been adapted into a new HBO series, retelling the “riveting and intricately messy love story”.
But one love scene in particular has stood out as being especially out of order.
If you feel brave, you can watch it here:
In the flashback scene, protagonist Henry uses his time travel abilities to go back to when he was 16 and… well, do what most 16 year olds try to do at some point.
In case I’m not clear, autofellatio. And in case that’s not clear, eat yourself.
People have been taking to Twitter to share their surprise at the scene.
One person wrote: “I had and read The time traveler’s wife for many years and how bravely I blocked out any memory of this scene.”
Another said: “The time traveler’s wife it is truly wild. Jump right from an incredibly depressing scene to ‘Of course I traveled back in time to suck my ass, didn’t I?'”
Writing for Decider, Meghan O’Keefe said: “Young Henry DeTamble (Brian Altemus) used his time travel power not to go back in time and kill baby Hitler, but to suck himself.
“I can’t pinpoint why the scene is so disturbing, but it will haunt me for the rest of my fucking life.”
However, not everyone found the scene unpleasant.
One person wrote: “I didn’t mean to watch The Time Traveller’s Wife on HBO Max but then I saw this clip where the main character goes back in time to give himself a blow job and now I think… maybe they have something.” good ideas that I should review?”
If it’s piqued your interest, here’s the synopsis for the series: “The time traveler’s wife follows the fascinating and intricately messy love story between Clare (Rose Leslie, game of Thrones), and Henry (Theo James, Divergent), and a marriage with a problem: time travel.
At age 6, Clare meets Henry, the future love of her life, and who, as a time traveler, actually visits her from the future.
“Fourteen years later, when a beautiful redhead walks into the library where Henry works claiming not only that she has known him all her life but that she is his future wife, a magical romance ensues that is as long and as complicated as Henry’s attempts to explain. Your condition’.
“Across six hour-long episodes, the genre-swapping drama series expertly weaves together themes of love, loss, marriage and survival, in a story that defies the laws and logic of time.”
