Thomas Tuchel faces N’Golo Kante Chelsea big decision as Man United make shock transfer

Thomas Tuchel could deal a serious blow to his rebuilding at Chelsea this summer following Manchester United’s recent decision. Erik ten Hag’s side have expressed interest in N’Golo Kante, according to The Guardian.

The 31-year-old made 42 appearances for the Blues this season, with a mounting injury record hampering his ability to reach the heights he once enjoyed. The report claims United are keen to find out if the France international could be sold this summer as his contract at Stamford Bridge expires next year.

The west Londoners are believed to be reluctant to sell the midfielder who is a Tuchel favorite. However, according to MailOnline, Todd Boehly’s consortium – which have agreed a £4.25billion deal to buy the club – are expected to be “pushing for A-list commitments” to usher in a new era at Stamford Bridge .

And with the new ownership group keen to bolster the Blues armoury, The Telegraph points out that after factoring in player sales, Tuchel could have as much as £200m available to bolster his side. Not to mention the return of Conor Gallagher, who has been described as ‘edgy but scoring’, from a hugely successful loan spell at Crystal Palace.

Of course, Kante faces an increasingly uncertain future at the club. However, the Blues boss believes the Frenchman’s career in west London deserves more credit and claims the midfielder has been key to Chelsea’s recent success.

Earlier this month, when asked if Kante should be discussed alongside Didier Drogba, Tuchel said: “Sure, but because he’s not that obvious he doesn’t get the spotlight, he’s even more important to a team because a guy like N’ Golo with the mentality of a helper, a water carrier, that makes the difference and big teams and successful teams need that. That’s why we love him so much and everyone wants to play with him and why do we miss him so much when he’s not around. “

The Chelsea boss added by detailing how important it is for Kante to find his fitness again after struggling with multiple muscle injuries this season. Tuchel said: “I think he’s our key player, but key players have to be on the pitch and he only plays 40% of games,” said Tuchel. “He is our Mo Salah. [Virgil] van Dijk. He is our Kylian Mbappe.”

Kante played a big part in Chelsea’s run to the Champions League title last season and the German wants his medical entourage to find a way to bring him back to that level. Tuchel added: “Last year I think they handed him the trophy in the last five Champions League games. I think they even gave it to him before the game.”
