The life and death of Eva Peron turn into a television series

“They say that when Eva Perón died, the military seized her body, they say that it was hidden throughout Argentina, even in the Vatican. They say that it was Perón who kept it a secret and they even say that in reality Eva had not died”, says the teaser of the television series “Santa Evita”, which premiered this week.

This production, an original from Star+ Latin America, will review the life story of Argentine politician Eva Duarte de Perón. Specifically, this fiction will tell “the story of a body without a grave and the legend that was born around it.”

The television series is based on the book of the same name written by the Argentine journalist, considered an icon of the non-fiction genre, Tomás Eloy Martínez. This work, precisely, recounts the enigma that surrounds the death (in 1952) of the former first lady of Argentina when she was only 33 years old. “In 1955, the military forces of Argentina overthrew then President Juan Domingo Perón and hid Evita’s body for 16 years, to prevent her from becoming a weapon against the regime,” the synopsis describes.

The politician, wife of the three-time president of Argentina, General Juan Domingo Perón, is remembered in Latin America for promoting the female vote in her country. Considered a defender of the rights of the working class, Perón always positioned himself against the social elites.

The Uruguayan dancer, actress, model and businesswoman Natalia Oreiro will be in charge of giving life to Eva Duarte de Perón in this production. In addition to Oreiro, who has a long career in small and big screen projects, Ernesto Alterio as Colonel Moori Koenig, Diego Velázquez as Mariano, Dario Grandinetti as Juan Domingo Perón and Francesc Orella as Dr. Pedro. Ara joins the cast.

The shooting of the film has already finished, so the series is expected to premiere soon on the Star+ platform in Latin American countries; while globally, audiences will be able to watch all seven episodes of “Santa Evita” on Disney streaming services.

“Santa Evita” is directed by the Spanish-Argentine director Rodrigo García and the Argentine filmmaker and screenwriter Alejandro Maci.

The executive producers are the renowned Mexican actress Salma Hayek and José Tamez, both from the production company Ventanarosa. The authors of the script have been Marcela Guerty and Pamela Rementeria.
