The Boys season 3 release date on Amazon Prime – full cast and plot ahead of premiere

Superhero cinema has dominated film and television for over a decade and is as popular as ever.

However, there definitely seems to be a shift in the type of superhero content that people want, as mature content like Joker, The Batman, and even Venom continue to be huge hits.

For television, The Boys rules the graphic superhero scene, with its brutal violence, sex, language, drugs and drinking proving to be one of Amazon Prime Video’s biggest hits.

It was so successful that it even got an animated spin-off earlier this year: The Boys Presents: Diabolical.

Now the real boys are back, and their mission to drag the gods among us down to our level is poised to cause untold collateral damage.

How does a normal man expect to kill a superhero? Well, for guys it can be anything from TNT enemas to disturbing drug overdoses, or even just writing them off like any other celebrity.

It’s a sight to behold and finally, thankfully, the third season is almost here.

The third season will begin on Friday, June 3 exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.

The platform typically releases new content between midnight and 3am.

Amazon Prime follows a weekly release schedule, so fans won’t be able to enjoy the full season.

The first season dropped all at once, but Amazon Prime decided not to use that format for the second season and is sticking with it from now on.

The entire main cast of The Boys returns for season three, with a couple of new surprises thrown into the mix.

Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles joins the cast as Soldier Boy, whose parallels to Captain America are obvious.

He has been dubbed the “world’s first superhero” who fought in World War II, helping him become “the first super celebrity and a mainstay of American culture for decades.”

The Walking Dead’s Laurie Holden also joins the team as the Crimson Countess, revealed with the caption “payback’s ab***h,” showing her appropriately dressed in an all-red outfit.

Dynasty star Nick Wechsler will play Blue Hawk, a hero who seems to be this universe’s answer to Judge Dredd.

His caption read: “He is here to protect and serve whether you like it or not.”

The new cast is packed, with Dexter’s Katia Winter joining as Russian mob boss Little Nina, Sean Patrick Flanery (also Dexter) joining as Gunpowder, and Miles Gaston Villaneuve as Supersonic.

All of these characters come straight from the comics, but the show is making its own stamp on the universe with its unique creations.

According to Deadline, the completely original characters are Orphan Black’s Kristin Booth and Marcella’s Jack Doolan, who play Tessa and Tommy from TNT Twins.

Finally, The Man in the High Castle star Frances Turner returns as a series regular in the role of Monique, Mother’s Milk’s wife.

Returning main cast includes Antony Starr as Homelander, Jessie T Usher as A-Train, Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko, and Nate Mitchell Black Noir.

Also returning are Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell, Laz Alonso as Mother’s Milk, Erin Moriarty as Starlight, Chace Crawford as The Deep, Dominique McElligott as Queen Maeve, and Claudia Doumit as Victoria Neuman.

Rounding out the main cast are Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Giancarlo Esposito as Stan Edgar, and Tomer Kapon as Frenchie.

Is there a trailer for the third season of The Boys?

Yes, and once again, Homelander takes center stage as he continues to lose his grip on base reality.

Seemingly taking place immediately after the first season, Homelander says in the trailer, “Let me say that again, Cam. He may be a superhero, but I’m also a man who fell in love with the wrong woman.”

Looking particularly unhinged this season, he may finally be about to find his match with the introduction of Soldier Boy, this universe’s answer to Captain America.

The second season ended with Stormfront’s apparent death and Billy Butcher’s injection with Compound V, giving him powers similar to the ones he despises.

It will put him on a more level playing field against Homelander and the rest of the superheroes that populate this corrupt world.

Victoria Neuman will also likely take center stage this season, the covert superhero politician who blew up a few brains earlier.

Hughie, now working for Victoria, may find himself caught in the crossfire as the boys inevitably discover the truth behind this unsurprisingly twisted government figure.

Speaking to GamesRadar, Victoria star Claudia Doumit said: “I’m excited to see what happens with her and Hughie.

I really want to know more about her. I’m excited to really dig into her backstory and how she got to where she is.

“Also, I’m really excited to see her fuck something up, blow up some heads.”

The official plot synopsis for the third season reads, “It’s been a quiet year. Homelander is subdued. Butcher works for the government, overseen by Hughie of all people.

“But both men long to turn this peace and quiet to blood and bone.

“So when The Boys learn of a mysterious Anti-Supe weapon, it sends them crashing into the Seven, starting a war and chasing the legend of the first Super Hero: Soldier Boy.”
