‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ has been buzzing on the internet ever since the trailer showed Natalie Portman (Jane Foster) wielding Thor’s hammer.
When she reappeared in the Thor franchise it started the rumor that this fourth installment is about the female Thor and rightly so seeing her wielding Mjolnir got everyone talking about how this movie is about Thor passing the torch so to speak, to his female counterpart.
The highly anticipated fourth film in the ‘Thor’ franchise, picks up after the events of ‘Avengers: Endgame’, as Thor leaves the mantle of ruling New Asgard to Valkyrie and sets off for other galaxies with the ragtag crew of the ‘Guadrians’. of the Galaxy’.
While this movie is widely believed to be about Thor passing his legacy on to Foster (Portman), in an interview with Total Film, ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ director Taika Waititi spoke about Jane Foster’s future in the MCU and how it may not be as simple as it seems. He said: “It’s really funny, the idea that Thor [has] got Stormbreaker, that big axe, and now his hammer is back and it’s in someone else’s hands,” Waititi shared. “It is no longer his hammer. It is the idea that someone is taking his place. I think a lot of fans will potentially assume, ‘Oh, okay, this is the passing of the torch’… I’m not aware of any plans Marvel has for the future, but I don’t think that’s the case. ”
Empire magazine also spoke to Waititi recently, asking if he’s approached a love story. He said, “I wanted to embrace this thing that I always kind of despised, explore this idea of love, and show characters who believe in love.”
He went on to add: “On paper, I’m a little embarrassed, but there are ways to do it with great characters making a great movie, and also have something that no fan wants in a superhero movie, which is people talking about love and characters. kissing”.
As reported by Screen Rant, Waititi stated that he has no knowledge of Marvel’s future plans for the characters in the ‘Thor’ movies, but the director would definitely know of a possible possible story direction, given that the fourth film is a story he wrote.
Chris Hemsworth has always expressed his willingness to continue playing the Asgardian god and Marvel has more or less made it known that Thor will appear in future MCU movies. But Natalie Portman’s future with the franchise remains in question. There is no indication that she has signed on for anything other than a movie.
Marvel’s official synopsis for ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ reads: “The film finds Thor on a journey unlike anything he has ever faced: a search for inner peace. But his retreat is interrupted by a galactic assassin known as Gorr the God Butcher, who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of the Valkyrie King, Korg, and his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who, to Thor’s surprise, inexplicably wields his magical hammer Mjolnir as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark on a harrowing cosmic adventure to unravel the mystery of the Butcher God’s revenge and stop him before it’s too late.”
