‘Stranger Things’ season 4 is going to be bigger, darker, and scarier

After almost three years, Strange things Fans are in for a treat as the popular sci-fi horror drama finally continues the story in its upcoming fourth season.

In a virtual press conference via Zoom on May 13, the main cast of Strange things discussed the show’s fourth season, what to expect this season, and the difficulties of filming the season amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Where does the fourth season begin?

In a press release containing the synopsis for the upcoming season, it has been confirmed that Strange things Season 4 picks up about six months after the Battle of Starcourt, which was the exciting finale of the previous season. At the press conference, Noah Schnapp (Will Byers) said that Stranger Things season 4 “definitely [be] darker and scarier.”

As for how the gang has fared in the six months since Starcourt, Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson) discussed the struggles of fitting in when kids start high school. After the battle of Starcourt, the gang had broken up, so with the separation anxiety, the pressure of fitting in as they start high school, combined with having to deal with everything that’s happened, it’s looking pretty grim for children.

“I think mainly because of what we are going through, especially the kids, we are starting high school without a good part of our group of friends, obviously we miss them very much, it is also a time of transition for us. And we’re not just struggling to deal with regular things like fitting into a new social climate, but also trying to deal with everything that’s happened in the last six months and especially now because the city knows something’s up, in a way. ”, Matarazzo said at the press conference.

The Strange things gang over the years

the cast of Strange things has been filming together for years, and the kids practically grew up on camera. At the press conference, the cast reminisces about their early days of filming, when the children were still very young.

Charlie Heaton and Noah Schnapp, who play the Byers brothers on the show, shared that they have formed a brotherly bond in the years they have been filming the series together. “I love filming with Charlie. He’s a great brotherly figure to have, and I look up to him off set as well, so it’s nice to be able to film with him,” Schnapp said. Heaton shared that watching Schnapp grow up made him protective of the young actor. “After seeing him as an adult, there’s that protection like, ‘Oh, he’s my brother, man, I’ve got to teach him some games.'”

As for the characters, the kids in the gang have been through a lot in the past three seasons: they’re no strangers (huh, get it?) to the perils of the Upside Down. For Maya Hawke (Robin Buckley), she feels the characters have evolved “a lot” over the seasons, as well as in the next season since the last.

“Relationships have evolved a lot and everyone gets to know each other better and themselves better along the way, and I think the group as a whole and the entire cast [is] such an incredible ensemble of comedians and drama, and it’s such a special atmosphere,” Hawke shared. “Everyone changes a lot and I think this season, especially, is starting to show because I think we’re close or we’re approaching the beginning of the end. We approach this kind of feeling that everyone changes and becomes the person they’re going to be.”

For Natalia Dyer, her character Nancy Wheeler has grown on her over the years of playing her on the show. “Now that I’ve filmed for four seasons, it feels natural to me now,” she said. For her, Nancy from season 1 shares some similarities with Dyer herself when she was in high school. “She goes through some crazy stuff, so I think it’s kind of a natural progression of who she is and it’s really fun to find out what her values are and see how she challenges them,” Dyer said.

Priah Ferguson feels that Lucas’s little sister, Erica, has also grown up throughout the show’s seasons and has also officially found her place in the gang. Although Erica is younger than the rest of the gang, she fits in very well and is beginning to let her personality shine through. Quick-witted, quick-witted, and good at math (a “STEM girl,” Priah joked), Erica has already proven herself to be a very valuable member of the team, although when asked, Priah admitted that “it would be great” to star in a spin-off of the show. based on Erica Sinclair.

New season, new faces

While the cast of Strange things has grown a lot over the years, it seems that his group of friends will grow too. In Season 4, we’ll meet at least two new characters on the show: Eddie Munson (played by Joseph Quinn) and Argyle (played by Eduardo Franco).

After four seasons on the show, the Duffer brothers are introducing new faces to the gang. The cast members have become close friends over the years of filming the show together, but newcomer Joseph Quinn wasn’t always nervous about joining the cast. “It was daunting, you know, walking into something as beloved as this. But my anxiety was quickly relieved by my lovely cast members,” he said.

Quinn shared some insight into what his character Eddie is like, saying that Eddie is “kind of a cayenne pepper” in the “broth” of characters. “[My character] it’s chaotic, it’s kind of cayenne pepper in the broth, a little bit spicy, a little bit of ‘do I want that in there?’” he said.

In addition to Quinn and Franco, the show will also star horror legend Robert Englund, who will play Victor Creel. Both Dyer and Hawke admitted that they were delighted to be working with Englund. “It was great to see him do what he does, it was really amazing. And he is a very kind person,” Dyer said.

Filming the show in the new normal

Strange things Season 4 comes almost three years after the release of Season 3, as the cast had to stop filming for a while due to the COVID-19 pandemic. adie Sink (Max Mayfield) shared that the cast and crew were very excited to get back to work, and that it was a little wild when everything had to be put on hold. “But we were very grateful when we had the opportunity to go back to work safely,” he said.

Set six months after the battle at Starcourt, the gang has broken up for the first time and will now enter a new chapter in their lives: high school. As the kids struggle to balance coping with the aftermath and navigating high school life, a new threat emerges that, when resolved, could end the horrors of the Upside Down once and for all.
