Admittedly, one of the hardest things this Memorial Day weekend hasn’t been getting tickets to “Top Gun: Maverick” (which rules, by the way), but trying to keep the last weekend of cannes in your head directly while “Star Wars” Celebration week was happening at the same time. One assumes that this is the problem in the Age of Content™. But in the transition from international movies to Lucasfilm, it wouldn’t be “Star Wars” without a spinoff of a spinoff. “Star Wars: The Bad Batch” follows the elite and experimental clones of the Bad Batch (first introduced in “The Clone Wars”) as they find their way in a rapidly changing galaxy in the immediate aftermath of the Clone Wars. A unique squad of clones who differ genetically from their brethren in the Clone Army, the members of the Bad Batch each possess an exceptionally rare ability that makes them extraordinarily effective soldiers and a formidable crew..
Here is the synopsis for the second season:
Months have passed since the events on Kamino and Bad Batch continue their journey navigating the Empire after the fall of the Republic. They will cross paths with friends and foes, both new and familiar, as they embark on a variety of exciting mercenary missions that will take them to unexpected and dangerous new places.
“Star Wars: The Bad Batch” is executive produced by Dave Filoni (“The Mandalorian,” “Star Wars: The Clone Wars”), Athena Portillo (“Star Wars: The Clone Wars”, “Star Wars Rebels”), brad rau (“Star Wars Rebels”, “Star Wars Resistance”) and Jennifer Corbett (“Star Wars Resistance”, “NCIS”) with carrie beck (“The Mandalorian,” “Star Wars Rebels”) as co-executive producer and jose rimes as producer (“Star Wars Resistance”). Rau also serves as supervising director with Corbett serving as head writer.
Hardcore fans will note the appearance of Gungi in the trailer, a young Wookiee Jedi who was training to become a Jedi in the Jedi Order during the ‘Clone Wars’ and clearly survived Order 66. While there is no release date for The second animated season of “The Bad Batch”, the new trailer, released at Celebration, says that the new season will arrive in the fall.
