PSG proposed £25m move for Arsenal star creates space for Edu to add attacking firepower – Bailey Keogh

Paris Saint-Germain could give Arsenal a big boost in the summer transfer window. The Paris side have a chance to sign Nicolas Pepe which would give Edu extra funds in the summer transfer window.

According to French news outlet Foot Mercato, Pepe has been offered to several clubs including PSG. The new Ligue 1 sporting director is reportedly fond of the Ivorian international and even signed him while he was at Lille.

It seems Pepe’s Arsenal career has come to a disappointing end. However, if Edu can raise the necessary funds for the winger, it could play an important role in improving Mikel Arteta’s summer recruiting ahead of next season.

Arsenal are looking to sell Pepe this summer to raise money for transfers, according to The Sun. They’re ready to take a massive hit at the £72million they paid for him. The Gunners are reportedly ready to accept £25m for the winger.

Keeping him in his contract for more than two years will massively expose his value and increase the risk of losing him on a free transfer, which would be an absolute nightmare given his £72m asking price.

According to Spanish news outlet Superdeporte, Sevilla have also been in touch with Arsenal over Pepe’s signing. The report went on to say that the Gunners are ready to let him go.

The Ivorian joined the club from Lille in 2019 for a club-record fee of £72million with the highest expectations given their success in Ligue 1 but has only contributed with 27 goals and 17 assists in three years.

If the Gunners were to sell Pepe at the end of the season, competition alongside Saka would certainly be required. Despite the excellent performances the Englishman has shown for Arsenal throughout the season, there have been times when he has shown signs of burnout, with Arteta admitting the youngster needs rest at the end of the season. It would certainly be beneficial to have someone who can help spread the attack load successfully.

Arsenal have already been linked with many players who would likely find more success at the Emirates than their predecessor in Pepe. According to SportBILD, Arsenal identified Diaby as the player who could be the ideal Pepe replacement. Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly asking €100m for the France international. BILD added should Diaby force a move elsewhere, the figure could drop to €75m (£63m) instead.

The Gunners have also been linked with a transfer reunion for Serge Gnabry. According to Spanish news outlet Fichajes, Arsenal have expressed interest in signing the winger.

Pepe’s time as an Arsenal player certainly seems to have come to an end. The Gunners have good substitutes so PSG could be doing a huge favor by accepting the offer to sign Pepe.
