Patrick Vieira gives Mikel Arteta key Arsenal blessing to sign promising France midfielder Bailey Keogh

Patrick Viira has guided Arsenal to the next ideal midfield signing. The Gunners need to strengthen that position ahead of next season due to lack of quality and roster depth.

According to The Mirror, the Gunners are keeping a close eye on Lens defensive midfielder Cheick Doucoure. He would be a useful signing as he can also play in defence, although of course he’s a midfielder.

This news comes after constant reports linking the midfielder with Vieiras Crystal Palace ahead of next season. The Crystal Palace manager’s midfielder scouting talent has proved excellent having signed the likes of Connor Gallagher in the past. And as he is one of the best midfielders in Premier League history, this should convince Arsenal to push through a deal for Doucoure.

Ever since Vieira left the Gunners for Juventus in 2005, fans have been demanding a direct replacement for the Frenchman that never materialised. However, it seems that if they secure Doucoure’s signature, they could have hit the jackpot.

Arsenal could fall short in midfield this summer reckons Roma are likely to make another attempt to sign Granit Xhaka at the end of the season.

That would make Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny the only experienced midfielders in the team. Albert Sambi Lokonga certainly has the potential but has yet to consistently demonstrate his quality on the Premier League stage.

Doucoure is valued at £13m by the CIES Football Observatory and had a strong 2021/22 season in Ligue 1. He helped Lens move seventh in the table while scoring five goals in 37 appearances.

football.londons Crystal Palace reporter Mark Wyatt noted that Palace fans have received a new clue about Doucoure’s future as the Mali international has been dropped from his national team’s latest squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in June. This was reportedly done to give him time to make some progress in his club situation.

Arsenal need to be more proactive than reactive in this transfer window. Not having that mentality cost them in the January transfer window after losing to Dusan Vlahovic and Bruno Guimaraes. Stealing Vieira’s ideal signing at Doucoure would certainly be a step in the right direction for the Gunners as Arsenal prepare for a busy summer transfer window ahead of next season.
