Saturday 12:30pm: Forest Green Rovers v Exeter City
TV: Sky Sports Football

The international break gives us the opportunity to marvel at some of the roads less traveled in English football and this weekend the TV cameras are off to the Westcountry for Forest Green v Exeter City in League One. These two are newly promoted teams and both they’ve gotten off to a lackluster start to their third-tier campaigns.

The good thing from a betting point of view is that these two have faced each other a lot in League Two in recent years. As they stand, they are 22 and 15, but only three points separate them at this early stage.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

FGR edged out The Grecians for the League Two title last season, but their side have been severely weakened over the summer, while City seem to have gotten a bit stronger, especially with the addition of Fulham’s Jay Stansfield. This season, Exeter are yet to win away from home, taking two points from their four away games.

Forest Green’s home record is only slightly better than City’s away record with three points gained from five home games, four of which ended in defeat. There isn’t much current good form to guide us, so I’ll side with a big trend in their historical results which have seen four straight draws in their last four league games in the last two seasons. Based on that alone, it has to be The tie.

Those draws have seen a total of two goals in four games with both coming four games into December 2020. However, given that goals have been flying this year, I think we could see an end to this barren streak on Saturday. The hosts have conceded 18 goals in nine games, scoring eight in the process.

Exeter have been a little more frugal with 10 let in on 12 scored at the other end. Five of those conceded have come in the last two and have been impactful for set pieces of late as baseline injuries begin to take their toll. With a combined average of 2.65 goals per game we go with Both teams score.

These two tend to play games with a lot of corners. FGR’s home games have averaged exactly 11 corners per game this season, racking up 25 and their visitors winning 30. City’s away games have seen an average of 13 per game with them taking 27 and conceding 25 in their four games. .

Interestingly, the last time these two met on The New Lawn, the Greeks defeated their hosts in a 0-0 draw and scored 13 corners in a match that had a total of 19. At a good price I’ll take More than 10.5 corners with these two averaging 12 per game when their home and away totals are combined.

Sam Nombe is a key player for The Grecians, but he is quite injury prone and they tend to take care of him a bit. He didn’t start in the 2-0 loss to Burton last weekend, so I think he’s primed for the nod early on.

He is the top scorer of all those on display at the weekend with four goals in 10 in all competitions and is averaging a goal every two games per 90 minutes played (he is also taken away a lot). Connor Wickham looks like the most likely man for the hosts, but I’ll side with Name to write down at any time to round us up
