Netflix’s Pinocchio has viewers saying they ‘never knew’ the children’s classic could ‘be so dark’

The one thing you can usually count on with a Disney movie is that it will almost certainly make you feel better about the world.

That’s not to say that they don’t deal with a heavy subject or that they’re lighthearted and light-hearted all the time, but there’s always a payoff at the end.

I mean,The Lion King It just wouldn’t work if Mufasa wasn’t brutally murdered by his brother Scar, right?

There has to be some kind of pain or adversity to overcome in order for the story to be a success.

But one of Disney’s classic movies has been reimagined for Netflix, and viewers say it’s darker than they might have expected.

You can watch the trailer below:

This time, the story is set in the 1930s during the rise of fascism in Benito Mussolini’s Italy.

The synopsis reads: “Based on the classic tale by Carlo Collodi, this stop motion musical follows the extraordinary journey of a wooden boy who is magically brought to life by a father’s wish.
