In a recent interview with The Wrap, Jennifer Kluska, one of the directors of the animated film (along with Chris Prynoski), offered some insight into the upcoming project and how it will fit into the larger context. Ghostbusters universe. This is what she said:

“It feels very good and appropriate to return to Ghostbusters in an animated form. It seems like a lot of Ghostbusters fans hail from that space as well. And that gives you a bigger, weirder stage to play on. And I think we obviously want to do something very new and different, like we always do, but we know there are a lot of Ghostbusters fans who are just waiting to see this animated franchise again.”

The co-director also went on to discuss the general style of the film, saying:

“By design, this is going to be different. I think all the movies Sony makes are very self-consciously different in style and tone, and increasingly visually. Technology and art drive the medium and we’re going to pursue our own approach that will be a very specific tie-in to the Ghostbusters franchise, to the world of the supernatural and to ghost storytelling.”
