Neil Gaiman explains why there’s no news on Netflix’s Tudum

When he’s not doing what he can to make an Amazon mess The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (hope you get the joke), Neil Gaiman is doing what he can to rally the fanbase for a second season of his, allanheinberg (Wonder Woman), Y David S. GoyerGaiman’s live-action adaptation The Sandman as well as keeping your expectations realistic. Last week, she explained the timeline for how the streaming service makes these decisions. And this time, she’s answering a question from a fan on Tumblr who was wondering why this weekend’s big global virtual fan event (Netflix’s Tudum) wasn’t the place to make a renewal announcement. That was pretty much the same question we asked on this morning’s edition of the BCTV Daily Dispatch. Well, as you can see from Gaiman’s answer (screenshot and text below), there’s nothing to be deduced from that. Turns out it all comes down to time:

If this Tudum event is anything like last year (in which we released the Sandman trailer), it would have been filmed in June or July and will focus solely on things that will happen in the next year. It wouldn’t matter if Sandman was renewed or not, it wouldn’t be mentioned in Tudum.

“‘Sandman’ Season 1 was released on August 5. The data collection has just finished, and it gets complicated because many people don’t binge watch it, but syndicate it, letting the episodes sink in before they see the next Say [Netflix] rushing won’t make decisions happen faster,” Gaiman wrote in his tweet last week in response to a question about why news of a second season has yet to break. Here’s a look:

and speaking of The Sandman…in case you missed it the last time we aired it, here’s a deleted scene from S01E01, “The Dream of the Righteous,” as Alex (laurie kynaston) confronts his father Roderick (Charles Dance) about the mysterious “sleeping sickness” that has spread since Morpheus was captured (tom sturidge):

But when Dream is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, his absence sets off a chain of events that will change both the waking and dreaming worlds forever. To restore order, Dream must travel through different worlds and timelines to make amends for the mistakes he made during his vast existence, revisiting old friends and enemies, and encountering new entities, both cosmic and human, along the way.
