Mattel Television announced today that the time has come for children to see twice as much again. Season 2 of Barbie: It Takes Two It will premiere on Netflix in less than two weeks, and a new trailer highlights what kids can expect to see in Barbie’s newest adventure. Once again, the series will focus on Malibu and Brooklyn, who are best friends on a cross-country quest to become music superstars.
The trailer shows the crazy scenarios that the two Barbies will experience. And from the looks of it, we’ll have plenty of them: Brooklyn and Malibu will have a concert at a fair, double life-size pizza slices to make ends meet, take a road trip, go fishing, go camping, and just about anything else they come up with for fun and inspiration to create exciting new music.
Barbie: It Takes Two is a sequel to the 2021 movie Barbie: Big City, Big Dreamswhich is just one title among several others that populate the Barbie Youtube channel. The extent of Barbie’s content is not surprising considering that the classic children’s toy has been around for over 60 years and has come in hundreds of different models. The multiverse of Barbie It’s been a thing for years, and Barbie: It Takes Two it’s just one example of the potential the franchise has in playing around with different iterations of its core product.
It’s a great year for children and adults who are fans of Barbie. In addition to the TV series, a highly anticipated live-action movie is currently in production, coming from the Academy Award-nominated director. Greta Gerwig (lady bird). Story details are still being kept under wraps, but the film will be subversive in that it will comment on beauty standards using the epitome of this problem. Movie stars margot robby (me, tony) in the lead role and ryan gosling (the gray man) as her boyfriend Ken. The extensive and star-studded cast also includes Will Ferrell, Kingsley Ben Adir, simu-liu, emerald fennell, jamie demetrius, kate mckinnon, miguel wax, America Ferrera, isa rae, Alexandra ShippY ncuti gatwa.
In the real world, the toy franchise is breaking glass ceilings in 2022 by introducing the first transgender Barbie doll, inspired by the award-winning producer, actress, writer and activist, Laverne Cox. The artist herself helped create the new Barbie and stated that she hopes LGBTQIA+ youth can “see this Barbie and have a sense of hope and possibility.”
