There were a few rumors that she might be on the show and the rumors turned out to be true as Michael Owens daughter Gemma is doing Love Island.
Gemma, a regular at St James’ Park when she was a young toddler when father Michael played for Newcastle United, was the seventh single to be confirmed for the new series of the hit ITV2 show. In a break with tradition, bosses decided that instead of sending out a list of candidates all at once, they would feed them one by one on Monday, fueling fan speculation as to who would be going to the villa.
Gemma’s addition to the Love Island line-up is sure to raise some eyebrows considering who her father is and the fact that she is a sports star in her own right as she is a successful international dressage rider. Gemma, who is also a business owner, was asked why she is doing Love Island, adding: “I’m open to finding love, I want to have a really fun summer. I was dating someone and then it didn’t work out so I was like, “Why not?”

When asked about what she will bring to the Love Island villa, the 19-year-old replied: “I would say I’m fun, flirty and fiery. I think I’m good at giving advice, I’m a good conversationalist, I’m very honest. If I wanted the same man I would, but in a nice, respectful way.
Given her sporting achievements and the fact that her father was a soccer megastar, Gemma admits that she will be competitive during her time on the show if Neds is, adding: “Sport has always been a big thing for me and my family. My dad was I’m a professional soccer player. I have competed in dressage for Great Britain since I was 11 years old. I’ve traveled all over Europe and competed in big arenas in big competitions. I would say I’m very competitive.
“When it comes to relationships, I will always do what I want. But at the same time I will not mess up anyone who is in a real relationship or stand in the way of a couple if they have a real connection. I wouldn’t do anything to another girl that I wouldn’t be happy about if they do it to me would.
