Hulu’s The Orville S3 | Brannon Braga, Jon Cassar and David Goodman [Exclusive]

Executive producers Brannon Braga, Jon Cassar and David Goodman thanked Seth MacFarlane the orville is back after almost three years hiatus in its new broadcast format for the third season as The Orville: New Horizons.

Taking advantage of the long hiatus, the beloved TV series in its first two seasons will feel a bit different with a new spaceship bridge and storytelling techniques.

Most of the cast from the TV series return, including Seth MacFarlane, Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, J. Lee, Mark Jackson, Chad L. Coleman, and Jessica Szohr. Anne Winters plays next season’s new character as Ensign Charly Burke.

Here is the synopsis:

Seth MacFarlane’s epic space adventure series the orville returns exclusively as a Hulu original series. Set 400 years in the future, The Orville: New Horizons finds the crew of the USS Orville continuing their mission of exploration, as they navigate both the mysteries of the universe and the complexities of their own interpersonal relationships.

LRM Online’s Gig Patta spoke with executive producers Brannon Braga, Jon Cassar and David Goodman about the upcoming third season. We talked about changes to the show with the setting, costumes, and even more serious storytelling techniques.

Brannon Braga produced music videos until he joined the writing team for the fourth season of Star Trek: The Next Generation. He became an executive producer on several Fox shows, including 24 Y Terra Nova. On the film side, his credits included Mission: Impossible 2, Star Trek GenerationsY Star Trek: First Contact. He executive produced the revival of the Carl Sagan miniseries. Cosmos: A Space-Time Odyssey it won a Peabody Award, a Critics Choice Award, and a Producers Guild Award. Additionally, he served as co-creator, writer, and executive producer for WGN’s Salem.

Jon Cassar is best known for producing and directing the first seven seasons of 24, for which he won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series. In 2011, he produced and directed the Canadian-American series the Kennedysfor which he won the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Director—Television Movie.

David Goodman began his writing career for the golden girls. He was a noted writer for futuramain which he wrote star trek parody episode “Where No Fan Has Gone Before”. Other credits included Star Trek: Company, Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story, fred the movieand its sequel Fred 2: Night of the Living Fred.

The Orville: New Orville airs on Hulu this Thursday, May 2.
