How to read the hotel technology distribution infographic
The hotel technology distribution infographic starts with the hotel at the center and expands towards the guest. The graph is organized by following the flow of data from the hotel to the guest through the three distribution groups: online, travel agents and tour operators, and meetings and events. Each ring that moves out is a level of hospitality technology that builds on the last one to reach the guest.
For example, a Property Management System (PMS) connects to a Channel Manager, which connects to an OTA, which then connects to a search engine, and finally to the guest.
Below are descriptions of each section of the hotel technology industry, from the inside out.
Property Management Systems
Property management systems store information and are your primary hub for your hotel data. Everything from available rooms to guest data and much more.
Hotel Distribution Tools
This section is the software used to get the rates, availability, inventory, images, texts, and more channeled to the various marketplaces (OTA, GDS, etc.) that help you sell across all channels.
Aggregation platforms include common software such as Revenue Management Systems and Channel Manager or Central Reservation Systems. They collect information and put it together for others to use for sales. For example, the GDS aggregates rates and hotels so that travel agents can take the information and use it to sell.
These are self-service marketplaces or platforms, such as OTAs, where guests and end buyers have direct contact and can use it to make a purchase. They are one of the most important sales channels, but before the data reaches them, they must be structured, have the right rates and more. A hotel’s website is also found in this section.
The marketing platforms are used to generate demand towards the sales/booking platforms. This is where you can advertise and communicate with potential guests and bring them in as guests.
Finally, here are the tools you need to analyze your revenue, market, hotel, and guest experience to help you optimize what you’re doing early in the workflow to improve future bookings and enhance the guest experience. .
