Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly planning a move for striker Freddie Ladapo, who will leave Rotherham United as a free agent.

Darren Moore is keen to increase his forward options ahead of another season in League One and the 29-year-old is an interesting player according to the Sheffield Star.

But would he be a good signing for the Owls? And do you need it?

Our FLW writers share their thoughts…

Quiz: 24 facts every Sheffield Wednesday fan should know about their club – Can you get the full score?

1. When was the last time Sheffield Wednesday beat Sheffield United in a competitive game?

Chris Gallagher

That would be a smart deal for Wednesday.

We all know the last six months haven’t gone too well for Ladapo at Rotherham, but that can’t take away from the fact that he’s been superb for them over the years – and a prolific goalscorer.

While Lee Gregory has performed well for the Owls, the reality is that Darren Moore needs another forward capable of scoring at this level, especially with Saido Berahino having left the club. So Ladapo would be an upgrade for him and could work well with Gregory as he has the physicality and strength to complement the former Millwall man.

This window is all about identifying quality over quantity for Wednesday and if they manage to win Ladapo it would be a good start to the window as Moore looks to build a squad that can move up next season.

Sheffield Wednesday have a lot of goalscorers in their team and this is one of the reasons some would argue against the signing.

But with Saido Berahino departing and Florian Kamberi leaving after his loan period is up, more attacking power is needed to give them the best chance of being involved in the promotion mix again.

With plenty of Championship experience, Ladapo would be a good addition and he already has promotion experience as well as a wealth of EFL appearances under his belt so if they can recruit him it’s a no-brainer.

Even with a free transfer, that would be a real coup for a League One team like the Owls.

Freddie Ladapo would be a great signing for Sheffield Wednesday as he will solve a number of problems Wednesday faced last season.

With the ball at his feet, Ladapo is among the best in League One when it comes to bypassing defenders and combine that with his pace, there aren’t many in the division better than him.

There is a lack of pace in the forward line on Wednesday as the main source of creativity comes from the full-backs. Ladapo offers something completely different and his skills and abilities would be a huge asset to Hillsborough.

His record for Rotherham is exemplary and has consistently been a source of goals for the Millers, making Ladapo a good signing for most teams, even in the Championship.
