Fulham in talks to try and finalize Man United transfer deal

Fulham are on the lookout for new faces to help them in the Premier League next season – and one name that has popped up is Nemanja Matic, with the Cottagers in talks over a deal as reported by Jonathan Shrager.

The club have secured a place in the top flight again ahead of next season, with the team storming towards the league title and looking like they could have a real shot at staying in the Premier League beyond next season.

However, Marco Silva is aware that this summer his team may need to recruit well and perhaps bring in some experienced faces to adapt to top-flight football and allow them to assert themselves.

When was the association founded?

One such name that seems to be on their radar is a transfer target – and would certainly fit that bill – is Nemanja Matic. The midfielder is set to be available on a free transfer with Man United ready to sack him after five years of service.

For a player like Matic, who has played at the highest level since 2009 and his move to Chelsea, the move to Fulham could be a huge boost.

Sealing a deal for his signature won’t be easy for the Cottagers, however, with several other clubs interested in signing the player after Jonathan Shrager. Benfica would be delighted to see the player again and Juventus are also said to be in talks with the midfielder – and promotion to the top of the Serie A table could appeal more to the 33-year-old.

However, Fulham are at least in the reckoning – and if they could strike a deal it could be a coup for the club.

The judgment

Nemanja Matic may now be in his 30s and at the end of his career but his mere presence in the squad could really help the club return to the Premier League.

He may not be the same player he used to be and there could be younger, more exciting options out there. Considering the potential value of the deal – minus his salary there would be no transfer fee as he is out of contract – and it’s hard to pass up an opportunity to land him.

If he plays regularly, he could also be a real asset for Marco Silva’s team. He’s been pretty much there throughout his career to date and has done so in the Premier League and the interest in him from other European clubs shows just how high he still is.

If Fulham could add him to their squad it could do a lot to see them stay in the top flight for much longer than just a single campaign.
