Manitoba’s Stubbs, Saskatchewan’s Hills and Solie named Players of the Week
CALGARY – A duo from Manitoba pushed their stock up the board over the weekend, helping the Bisons shine on both the offensive and defensive ends of the field. Running back Breydon Stubbs and linebacker Dolan Hills have been named Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. Saskatchewan’s David Solie takes home Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time in a row after another stellar performance for the Huskies.
The Bisons running back made his presence felt early, rushing in a 10-yard touchdown for the first major touchdown of Saturday’s matchup with the Calgary Dinos.
Stubbs went back to work in the third, finding a route down the middle from his forty, breaking up an inning and then splitting the defense before falling inside the Dinos’ thirty. The 39-yard run remained the longest of the game.
The sophomore Winnipeg product heard his number called 17 total times in the game. In Edmonton, David Solie got the Saskatchewan Huskies off on the right foot with a 27-yard field goal just minutes into the game. Solie matched the mark in the second with another three points.
The fifth-year kicker stepped up the challenge in the second half, securing a 44-yard kick to put the Huskies up by 18. With the game out of reach for the Alberta Golden Bears, Solie scored a sure-fire score in the fourth, again finding the uprights from 44 yards.
Solie went five of six on the night, earning her team fifteen points. He also had four kickoffs for 214 yards, as well as five punts for 192 yards.
