‘Extraordinary’ Aurelien Tchouameni played football with his father every day, was mocked by team-mates after games with Manchester United and hailed by Paul Pogba

Aurelien Tchouameni is a player everyone is talking about and he is facing a big transfer real Madrid.

The likes of Liverpool and Manchester United are also keen on the young defensive midfielder, who has been making waves for Monaco this year, but it seems a move to Bernabeu beckons for the highly rated 22-year-old star.

The Frenchman was born in Rouen in northern France.

His father, Fernand Tchouameni, was a failed footballer and an only child at the time of Aurelien’s birth.

As a result of his father’s professional failure, he played football with his son every day in the hope that he would make it as a professional – with the desired effect.

Tchouameni improved massively and was brought in from Bordeaux as a youngster.

Here he went through the relevant age groups and slowly began to make people sit up and take notice.

Former Chelsea and Tottenham star Gus Poyet decided he was ready for his first-team debut and played him in the Europa League and Ligue 1 in the 2018/19 season aged just 18.

He made such an impression that players like Internazionale began to pay attention to this new midfielder, who was excellent both physically and technically.

His father betrayed In an interview he saw similarities with Paul Pogba and said: “Aurelien is a central midfielder, mentally strong, with a good interpretation of the game and a very good technique. Compare him to a well-known player? He has a similar profile to Paul Pogba.”

After his breakthrough year and halfway through the 2019/20 season, Monaco decided Tchouameni was worth a punt and they handed Bordeaux just over £16million for his signature.

Monaco has become a club known for its player development. Players like Kylian Mbappe, Fabinho, Bernardo Silva and Thomas Lemar have all honed their skills with the Ligue 1 side before moving on.

His Monaco career didn’t get off to the best start, however, as he only played three games and played a total of 62 minutes.

A change of manager gave Tchouameni a chance to impress and the rest, as they say, is history.

Tchouameni's rise to the top was spectacular

The midfielder produced some colossal performances in the Monaco engine room that helped the club finish third in Ligue 1.

Tchouameni may be a defensive midfielder but is a former Arsenal and Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas revealed last year that the 22-year-old could play anywhere.

“He can play alone as No. 6, as a defensive midfielder, as No. 8, in double six,” said the Spaniard.

“What he is doing now could even become a good No. 10 in a year if he wanted to. He has the power to get into the box. He needs to improve his last pass a bit, but he’s still so young and he’s determined to learn.

“From what I can see and the will he has, he has a bright future ahead of him.”

After a speculative summer that saw Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur linked, the Frenchman stayed at Monaco where he continues to shine.

The midfielder gained international recognition, even playing in the UEFA Nations League final against Spain despite making his debut for Les Bleus a month earlier.

He played the full 90 minutes as France emerged victorious and looks set to have a long and prosperous international career.

A man who really likes Tchouameni is certainly Pogba: “He’s very good.

“He’s not a boy, he’s shown on the field that he’s a man with a lot of energy.

“It’s a pleasure to play alongside him, I will always be there to push him. He brings a lot. He has exceptional technique and physical qualities.

“It’s nice to see young players coming into the French team and showing themselves so well. He can only make progress. He is very, very young and he is the present and the future.”

That’s incredible praise from one of France’s best players and world champion.

Then came the Manchester United and Real Madrid ties, leading to his Monaco teammates deriding him.

He told L’Equipe: “In the dressing room, they pulled up the covers and laughed. ‘Oh, you’re leaving us already?’

“It’s flattering, but I don’t wake up in the morning and think about it.”

Then there was his performance against Paris Saint-Germain in March as Monaco ended the year with ten wins in eleven.

Tchouameni played at the base of midfield and delivered a master class against Marco Verratti, Leandro Paredes and Danilo Pereira.

This portrayal led to numerous short YouTube videos being made to show just how good the Frenchman was against France’s greatest side.

And now he looks ready for Real Madrid, for which it has to be said that he is more than ready.

And since he’s only 22, Tchouameni is a name we may all have to get used to for a very long time.
