Doctor strange in the multiverse of madness features some surprise appearances by numerous characters from Marvel Comics lore. While much of the discussion of character appearances centers on the Illuminati’s use of Earth-838, including Professor X (Patrick Stewart), the film’s mid-credits scene has also drawn attention thanks to the casting of Charlize Theron as Clea.

In the comics, Clea is also known as Doctor Clea Strange, and is portrayed as a sorceress, disciple, lover, and eventual wife of Doctor Strange. She also ends up taking up the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme after him. Charlize Theron’s appearance intrigued many viewers, given that she will be the latest Academy Award-winning actress to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Given that the MCU is already introducing us to who his new love interest is likely to be, the prospect of Benedict Cumberbatch and Charlize Theron appearing together in future projects is pretty exciting. After all, they’re both some of the most acclaimed artists of their time, and seeing them showcase that in the world’s biggest franchise is exciting.
