Championship play-off final: Fans react as Jon Moss left Huddersfield ‘absolutely robbed’

‘One of the worst referees in football history!’: Fans react as Jon Moss leaves Huddersfield ‘absolutely robbed’ after rejecting TWO penalty claims in his last game as an official… as fans see the ‘amazing’ VAR in the league game complain -off final

Fans on social media have called Jon Moss’ refereeing performance in the Championship play-off final “absurd” after he controversially refused to award two penalties to Huddersfield.

The Terriers were beaten 1-0 by Nottingham Forest in a thrilling final at Wembley, where a Levi Colwill own goal was enough to split the teams and send Steve Cooper’s side to the Premier League.

However, online fans were quick to call out the official Moss after Huddersfield were denied two penalties.

Fans say Moss had a major impact on the game after ruling that Jack Colback had not fouled Harry Toffolo in the penalty area in the 73rd minute of the game.

Replays showed Colback tripping Toffolo, but Moss gave Toffolo a simulation yellow card in his last appearance before retiring, giving Forest a free-kick. The Video Assistant Referee did not reverse the decision.

Then, in the 83rd minute, Lewis O’Brien was clearly brought down by Max Lowe – but again Moss and VAR decided it wasn’t enough to justify a penalty.

Twitter users didn’t hold back in describing Moss’ ad, with one fan suggesting the FA is launching “a serious investigation” into the office.

One fan said: “Jon Moss is easily one of the worst referees in the history of football, making shocking decisions almost every game. Huddersfield lost at least a penalty there, if not two!’

“Why weren’t these penalties imposed in the first instance? The fact that they were then missed both times by VAR is confusing. That just can’t happen in a game of this magnitude,” added another.

One user suggested Moss’ decisions “cost a club huge rewards” – given the financial benefits of winning the play-off final.

Forest made their debut at the new Wembley and made their first appearance in 30 years since a League Cup final defeat by Manchester United.

Steve Cooper’s side booked their return to the Premier League – worth £180million – with a win over Huddersfield – 23 years after they last competed in the top flight.
