The production by Lin Manuel Miranda, Thomas Kail, and Andy Blankenbuehler sparked a worldwide revolution with its contemporary score, but later came under scrutiny for its lack of accurate representation of Afro-Caribbean and African-American voices.
W. Jerome Stevenson is an acting instructor at the University of Oklahoma Helmerich School of Theater and served as Production Artistic Director for Pollard Theater Company in Oklahoma until 2020. Stevenson is an accomplished director and a proud member of the Association for Equity of Actors. and serves as an adjunct professor of drama at the universities of Oklahoma City and Oklahoma. Stevenson’s many directing credits include Hairspray, Green Day’s American Idiot, Crowns, Y The curious incident of the dog at midnight. In addition to a variety of radio, television, and film work, Jerome received a 2018 Oklahoma Governor’s Arts Award for Community Service.
