Burton Albion 0-4 Bristol Rovers

Bristol Rovers inflicted a hammer on 10-man Burton, who saw Conor Shaughnessy miss the red card in the first minute.

The Albion defender was penalized for a foul on Aaron Collins just outside the box and referee Ross Joyce didn’t hesitate to show the red card.

Rovers had never won at Burton in their previous six attempts but set about making it right when Antony Evans swept home from the free-kick following Shaughnessy’s dismissal.

The former Everton midfielder then had time and space to pick out defender James Connolly at the back post to sweep home and put the visitors two ahead within 12 minutes.

Albion were three down in Wycombe’s season opener last season and that was worse when Collins fired off a quick brace four minutes from half-time, finding space on the left side of the box both times to hit besieged goalkeeper Ben Garratt.

John Marquis planted a header against the bar as the visitors looked for a fifth in the second half, but they failed to do any further damage to Albion.
