BT TV cuts the price of Netflix, NOW and Freeview Box Bundle

BT TV, the TV platform that BT brings to its broadband customers, is offering a new summer deal on its entertainment package, including a subscription to two popular streaming services, along with BT’s YouView 4K recorder, BT TVPro.

The package offers a standard Netflix subscription, a NOW entertainment subscription and box, and normally costs £17/month.

However, for a limited time, BT is offering the same package for just £9/month – with a 24-month contract, and provided you are also a BT Broadband customer.

In addition, BT today announced that it is expanding the entertainment line-up, with a new ‘Asian Mix’ add-on pack that is available to BT customers for £5/month (on a monthly rolling contract).

Asian Mix features eight channels dedicated to Indian TV and movies, including Utsav Plus, Utsav Gold, Zee TV and more (see full list below).

BT TV Platform

bt started bundle Netflix into your TV packages last year, shortly after launching its 4K BT TV Box Pro.

The box is a YouView-based 4K/HDR device with streaming apps and plenty of storage for Freeview recordings.

The box supports Dolby Atmos sound, 4 tuners (so you can record up to 3 shows on separate channels and watch a fourth), 1TB of storage, a Bluetooth remote, and WiFi/Ethernet connectivity.

The BT TV Box Pro also has a long list of supported streaming apps: Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, NOW, Britbox, BT Sport, BT Player, Milkshake and more, as well as all the standard upgrade streaming apps: BBC iPlayer , ITV Hub, All4, My5, UKTV Play, S4C, STV Player and BBC Sounds.

BT “Flexible” TV packages come bundled with BT broadband plans (you can’t get BT TV alone, except BT Sportwhich is also available as a monthly pass and on Sky and Virgin Media).

BT’s TV packages, along with BT Broadband, come with a 24-month contract, so they’re not really very ‘flexible’.

However, the flexible part comes from being able to change your TV package every 30 days: switch from Entertainment to Sports, cancel one and add another, or just get the VIP package that includes everything (but you can’t cancel the TV contract entirely, until your contract ends).

In addition to seamlessly switching between packages, customers can also attach standalone add-ons to their packages, such as Sky’s NOW streaming plans, Amazon Prime Video and more.

BT TV summer entertainment offer

The cheapest BT TV package is the “Entertainment Package” which includes:

  • Sky’s streaming service: NOW – with his entertainment Membership, which includes Sky TV channels such as Sky Atlantic and Sky Max.
  • Netflix Basic Plan (Only SD content, only on one screen at a time).
  • the amc channelwhich is exclusive to BT TV and includes American shows and movies.
  • The BT TV Pro Boxwhich allows you to watch and record Freeview channels.

until August 26, 2022you can get this package for £9/monthinstead of the usual £17/month.

If you want, you can add or upgrade the package later (switch from Netflix Basic plan to 4K, for example, at an additional cost, of course), even with the new Asian Mix package.

You can also add some of the other BT packages, if you want to add sports for example.

The offer is available to both new and existing customers (with a few caveats), and remember, you also need to be a BT Broadband customer (which incurs an additional cost), plus sign a 24-month contract, for both broadband and the television package.

is the BTTV £Offer of 9/Month Is it worth it?

Without BT, the basic Netflix plan usually costs £6.99/month (after price increase this year), and NOW Entertainment membership costs £9.99/month if you buy it directly.

netflix on tv

So at the regular price of £17/month, you’re not really saving any money with the BT entertainment package – except, perhaps, when you factor in the TV Box Pro.

A similar DTT recorder, which also includes broadcast applications, such as the Humax Aura (see our review)it’s around £250. So basically you get an expensive recorder/streaming box “for free”.

However, things are a bit different with this limited time £9/month Deal: You get NOW Entertainment and Netflix (albeit the basic plan) at almost half the normal cost of both combined.

So looking at the price alone, it’s a good deal. BUT… remember that you are also subscribing to BT’s broadband service, which may not necessarily be the cheapest or best service in your particular situation/address.

Also, I am not a big fan of long television contracts and you lose the flexibility that cutting the cord usually gives youwhen you subscribe to a Netflix/NOW package for 24 months.

Also worth noting that in aprilBT offered this same plan for just…£6/month (for 24 months). So while it’s still cheaper than the “regular” plan, this deal isn’t quite as good as the one in April.

So with the pros and cons, this comes down to personal choice: If you see yourself watching Netflix and NOW for the next 24 months anyway, then you’re better off paying less.
