BREAKING: Fiorentina star Alfred Duncan retires from international football at 29 – Ghana Latest football news, live scores, scores

Midfielder Alfred Duncan retired from international football at the age of 29.

The Fiorentina star announced his retirement from international football in a heartfelt letter after last playing for Black Stars of Ghana in 2018.

The letter reads:

It’s time to say goodbye to the national team.

My heart is sad because I wanted to make a piece of history with Ghana national team but they NEVER gave me a chance to prove it.

If you’re never considered and you can’t do anything to change the situation, it becomes more difficult mentally. I have been humiliated, discriminated against and left aside for years, despite constantly trying to keep the doors open. Unfortunately, I can’t continue to feel bad about being treated unfairly because I know I have a clear conscience. Until a few years ago, I was the Ghanaian player with the best performances and appearances in the most prestigious leagues, but I was never considered in the national team. I’ve recently declined some invitations because I find it insulting to call me when it suits someone, without considering my feeling as a person who makes sacrifices in their work.

If years ago I had psychological trauma as a Sassuolo player, after traveling 15 hours to Washington for a friendly against Canada and then not even playing a minute, I was the only player not to set foot on the field. It was a very difficult time for me and my family, but thanks to my loved ones and the support of a psychologist, I was able to overcome it too. I went through so many terrible moments just because of the national team, I got through it all on my own and went my way. I have found peace and happiness without even thinking about being called up to the national team, with the sole aim of giving my best to those who support me, see me as an important player and appreciate me. For a player like me who has trained a lot and has been in Serie A for 11 years, it’s unbelievable to only have 9 caps for the national team. Pure madness that has no justification. I don’t accept being called up just because the federation is being pressured by the citizens and not because they recognize my value and what I can bring to the national team.

The President of the Ghana FA, Kwesi Appiah, Avram Grant and CK Akkonor know exactly what I mean and how they treated me. For the person that I am, I do not deserve everything they have done to me and for this reason I am ending a story that has never had the calm and serenity that I deserve and to be able to continue working for Fiorentina , the Team I value and respect for who I am and the passion I put into my daily work thank you!
