Bernd Leno does not let speculation about his Arsenal future get too close. In fact, he’s been brilliant at joking about his next move should he depart in the summer transfer window.
The German international started the 2021/22 season as the Gunners’ first-choice goalkeeper. But after conceding nine goals in his first three games against Brentford, Chelsea and Manchester City, he was dropped in favor of £24m new signing Aaron Ramsdale and rarely got a glimpse of Premier League games for the rest of the season .
Aside from representing Ramsdale in their 1-0 win over Aston Villa before the international break in March, Leno saw his playing time limited in the second half of the season, especially with Arsenal eliminated from both domestic cup competitions in January and absent from Europe.

As a result, this rare appearance at Villa Park is expected to be his final appearance for the Gunners football.london have previously reported that a summer departure is very likely as he tries not to miss out on a spot in Germany’s World Cup squad in Qatar.
However, he has not yet said goodbye. Taking time out on his post-season break, the 30-year-old had fun on social media, joking about the move to Formula One after leaving Arsenal and joining Lewis Hamilton’s – a Gunners supporter – team, as he settled a claim he had, Colney has already said goodbye to players and staff at the London training ground.
“Breaking news: Bernd Leno is getting on @Lewis Hamilton‘s @F1 team,” Leno continued Twitter. “He was spotted outside his box in Monaco yesterday.” Given the use of multiple laughing emojis, the German clearly found the funny side of the claim and the answer was pretty brilliant.
Although he has yet to say goodbye at Arsenal, Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu are already planning for life without having already agreed a deal with New England Revolution for Matt Turner to underwrite him for Ramsdale next season substitute.
football.london understands the Gunners have been trying to confirm the 27-year-old’s signing as he flies to England in June to complete a medical and the keeper has revealed when his first £4.5million transfer will come completed and could subsequently be announced by the association.
“My official release [from Revolution] is June 24,” he told Fox Sports earlier this month. “I think the Revs have games on June 19th and then June 26th. So I would be eligible for the 19th but not the 26th. My flight is booked right after the game on the 19th.”
