Barnsley 1-0 Cheltenham Town – BBC Sport

Luke Thomas
Luke Thomas had not scored a league goal for Barnsley since August 2019

Luke Thomas scored the only goal as Barnsley beat Cheltenham at Oakwell and new boss Michael Duff secured his first league win against his former club.

Wade Elliott’s men had their first clear chance after a cross from Taylor Perry found the feet of Dan N’Lundulu, who fired wide from inside the box.

Duff was forced into an early substitution eight minutes before the break when the injured Nicky Cadden was replaced by Luca Connell.

Barnsley had the ball in the net four minutes after the break when captain Mads Andersen tapped home only to see the goal ruled out for offside.

A minute later, Liam Kitching headed over after hitting James Norwood’s cross.

The winner came in the 66th minute when Thomas drove forward after intercepting a loose Cheltenham pass and slammed a fierce swipe into the left side of the goal to smack Luke Southwood.

Kitching almost scored a second goal in the last minute when his shot went just over the bar.
