‘Aquaman’s James Wan Talks Moving ‘The Trench’ Plans Into A New Film

aquaman director James Wan discusses the possibility of changing his plans for the canceled film, The ditchin other DC Universe projects.

Following the success of the 2018 film, aquaman, a sequel was put into development, as was another project based on the creatures known as The Trench. In the movie version, The Trench was one of the Atlantean tribes that transformed into the fish-like monsters we saw in the movie. Warner Bros ultimately opted not to go ahead with the film.

As The ditch was cancelled, some parts of what would have been the movie have been revealed. Notably, James Wan revealed that the film was actually a Black Manta solo film starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. It’s unclear why Warner Bros chose not to go ahead with the film, although his role in aquaman and the lost kingdom may have had something to do with it.

While speaking with Comicbook.com, James Wan was asked if his ideas for The ditch he would find his way into another movie. The director was pretty vague about his answer and talked about how maybe 20%-30% of his ideas are used in his movies:

“Listen, I feel like whatever I come up with, whatever I do, if I come up with something that I don’t end up using, that doesn’t mean I can’t be inspired to use it in a different way. That’s my problem, I come up with so many ideas and I have so many ideas leaking out, but obviously, I can’t use them all. So I would say that of all the different thoughts and ideas that I came up with, I end up using maybe 20-30% of them in my work, and so I have a drawer full of ideas that could turn into something else. ”

Here is the synopsis of aquaman and the lost kingdom:
