Aquaman Director James Wan Hints He’s Still Using Ideas From The Trench

aquaman Director James Wan recently reflected on the scrapped spin-off, The ditchand how ideas from this film are still making their way into his work.

aquaman turned out to be a huge hit for DC and Warner Bros. when it was released in 2018, with game of Thrones star Jason Momoa finally makes one of DC’s most mocked heroes cool in the eyes of the audience. In addition to the typical emotions of comic films, aquaman brought some chilling moments to life in a scene involving the Trench.

The Trench are a monstrous subspecies of Atlanteans. They are carnivorous creatures, more fish-like than normal humanoid Atlanteans, and have adapted to survive at extreme depths. The planned spin-off would have been more of a horror movie, focusing on Trench and Aquaman’s nemesis, Black Manta.

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, James Wan was asked about scrapping aquaman cleave. The director revealed that the ideas of The ditch it may continue to influence his work, suggesting that elements of that film can still be seen elsewhere. wan said:

“Listen, I feel like whatever I come up with, whatever I do, if I come up with something that I don’t end up using, that doesn’t mean I can’t be inspired to use it in a different way. That’s my problem, I come up with so many ideas and I have so many ideas leaking out, but obviously, I can’t use them all. So I would say that of all the different thoughts and ideas that I came up with, I end up using maybe 20-30% of them in my work, and so I have a drawer full of ideas that could turn into something else. ”

While James Wan does not confirm whether any of his unused ideas of The ditch are making their way into the next aquaman and the lost kingdom, it certainly seems like that could be the case. It is also possible that some of the underlying concepts and ideas for The ditch could find a home elsewhere, in the director’s job outside of DC.
