‘Andor’ Showrunner On K-2SO’s Absence From ‘Star Wars’ Series

Andor showrunner discussed why K-2SO does not appear in the next Star Wars Serie.

the next new Star Wars Serie Andor is set to tell the stories of its main character played by Diego Luna years before the events of Rogue One. Some are a bit surprised to see that the droid K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) will not appear in Season 1 of this series, given that in 2019, Diego Luna and Alan Tudyk took the stage together to talk about the show at D23 Expo. .

Well, showrunner Tony Gilroy explained why we won’t see K-2SO in Andor Season 1, and what that could mean for this Star Wars to show:

“From a narrative point of view, there are multiple reasons. I would say: ‘Wait and see’. It’s a story we can’t wait to tell. It’s hard to take an Imperial droid with you and not draw attention to yourself. It is a difficult baggage. When we do, we’ll do it in a spectacular way instead of presenting it and ignoring it, or presenting it or hiding it, or the bad versions that we would have been forced to do.

It’s safe to say that the first season of Andor seems to follow the early years of the Rebel Alliance, and since K-2SO is an Imperial droid, it’s likely that he wasn’t a part of Cassian’s life until a little closer when the events of rogue one occurs.

Diego Luna first appeared as Cassian Andor in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. This is the synopsis of the film:

Former scientist Galen Erso lives on a farm with his wife and young daughter, Jyn. His peaceful existence comes crashing down when the evil Orson Krennic takes him away from his loving family. Many years later, Galen becomes the Empire’s chief engineer for the most powerful weapon in the galaxy, the Death Star. Knowing that his father holds the key to their destruction, Jyn joins forces with a spy and other resistance fighters to steal the space station plans for the Rebel Alliance.

Directed by Gareth Edwards from a screenplay co-written by Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy based on a story by John Knoll and Gary Whitta, rogue one stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, with Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is available on Digital HD, Blu-Ray and DVD, while Andor is coming to Disney Plus on September 21, 2022. Stay tuned for the latest news on the series and the future of K-2SO, and subscribe to the Heroic Hollywood YouTube channel for more great video content!
