Major League Soccer is a bit like those friends you find on vacation. You say you’ll keep in touch, but when you get back to the daily routine of the Premier League, the connection tends to fall by the wayside.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

However, MLS has even more appeal this summer as the World Cup takes place in the middle of the European season in the desert. If we ignore the artificial playing fields, goofy names, baseball stadiums, and chants straight from the elementary school yard, there’s a lot to like.

And I’m not just saying that because there’s nothing else to do. Honest. Whatever you think about MLS, it’s here to stay. So if you have a long, hot summer ahead of you, you might as well cram. Here’s a snazzy double for the Sunday night/Monday morning games in the States.

La Galaxy Stadium

TV: Sky Sports Football

We start in the City of Angels where LA Galaxy takes on Austin FC. Austin is doing well in her sophomore season, finishing 2nd in the Western Conference after 13 games and sitting three spots higher than her far brighter opponents.

The Texas side have won seven, drawn three and lost three, while Galaxy have won six, drawn two and lost five. Both are in pretty shaky shape coming here. LA have won one of their last five – a 1-0 away win at the team they face here again, Austin. MLS right?

Austin has won two of his last five, but five of his last eight continue to decline. That loss to LA Galaxy threw them off a bit, but since then they’ve performed well in their three games, all against three of the better teams in MLS.

This result has shaken the work a bit, but I still think it’s worth supporting Austin wins as they take revenge immediately. They have a decent record away from home and have actually picked up more points from away games than LA at home this season.

Next we head up the west coast to Seattle for their game against Charlotte FC. The Sounders have disappointed so far this season, sitting 12th in the Western Conference with 13 points from 11 games. This is Charlotte’s first MLS season and they are 7th in the Eastern Conference with 16 of 13 points.

Seattle are the big favorites to win here, and that’s likely due to Charlotte’s shock away win by one point in six games played. However, echo sounders are by no means sensational at home. They have six points from their four games this year, the second-worst record in all of MLS, but they have games to make up.

This is a tricky one because Charlotte is in good shape but her away form is so bad you can’t touch her while Seattle is way too short to assist just to win. Instead, I like the look of Seattle wins and less than 2.5 goals.

The hosts have seen Unders in four of their last six, while it has clicked in six of Charlotte’s last nine. Our away team here always keeps things tight and they never get hit. They just can’t seem to get over the finish line away from home so I expect another narrow away loss for them.
